Neither was 2016.
Or 2008.
I truly hate the phenomenon in which every year, all news and social media content has to point out how horrible the year has been. If all you can focus on is the negative aspects of the last 365 days, the events of the year aren’t the problem.
Don’t get me wrong, 2020 wasn’t the best year of my life but it was one of the better ones. I understand I’m not one of the millions of people who lost their jobs either temporarily or permanently. I didn’t lose a business or have to drop out of school (or even change my academic plan whatsoever although I did willingly). Even then… if that stuff did happen, it happened. Bitching about it is not a replacement for reflection and action. That attitude is why so many people who get hit with these situations have no savings or plan to fall back on. Sure, we can talk about how they’re victims of circumstance or society, but give me a break. You can’t complain about how horrible your life is for 20 years and expect it to get better.
Just think, a smidge over 100 years ago, they had this same pandemic crap, but there was no internet, no devices, and if you lived in the boonies, probably no indoor plumbing. I’ll take 2020!

It’s definitely not the worst year in history. People love to catastrophize things. Apparently, every year is the worst year in history. I remember everyone saying 2016 was the worst year in history but they seem to have forgotten already. Personally, 2020 was a very productive year for me and shit got done.

I’ve only personally spoken to people who have said it was a good year for them. I guess when some people are writing blog posts they have to dramatize how horrible it actually was, lol. This is one of the best years of my life.

Same here! A lot of good things happened in 2020 🙂 2021 will be the settling down year. 2020 was the transition year to “true adulting.” I finished school (finally) and got 2 job offers this month which has never happened to me before, but I have yet to start both of them (so I’m still broke). I was hoping to have started one of them by now. Getting offered a job right before Christmas puts things on hold it seems.
